Peace Like a River
When peace like a river attendeth my way... that is one of those great songs that comes back to you just at the right moment and it floated back to me today. There are so many crazy things going on in the world: a murder/suicide, freeway shootings, out-of-control road rage, and just general craziness. And when I get stressed about them all and how it seems that we are not making any dent at all in the hate strata, I just have to curl up on my mental couch and sing. Hiding our heads in the sand doesn't help at all, but singing is a force of love, and hate cannot comprehend it. I don't know what's in the air, but we have to keep singing of love, talking of love, and being love in the midst of all this.

Analyze This
Well, after posting the last post and reading it back to myself, I guess I maybe do have a problem...I said "problem" not addiction. Maybe it has something to do with moving so much when I was younger. I have personally moved my primary residence a total of 15 times, and if you add in the times my other parent's home changed (the one I wasn't living with at the time), it brings the total to 23 moves. That's a lot. And I think I missed having a place where we could put nails in the walls, hang pictures, and make the place homey. And we never painted, cause most of the places were apartments or rental houses and you don't get your security deposit back if the second bedroom comes back purple with blue stripes. So even though I'm not big on crazy fake-flower bouquets over every picture hanging on the wall, I do like places to look cozy and lived in. And I definitely like when my space reflects my unique personality. This is probably why I love Hallmark. I don't love everything they have there, but I like picking out things I think are cute, and decorating my room and office with them. I recently got this cute calendar for my desk at work. I especially love the white with the springy green about it.

I never thought I was a sappy person, and I still don't think I am, but for some reason I LOVE Hallmark. I can shop there any day of the year. I especially love the Gold Crown card, because you get discounted calendars and fun things when you buy cards, and coupons for free stuff in the mail. I know I am a sick, demented addict now because my local independently owned and operated Hallmark store just sent me a Thank You card for spending over $65 this year. (I can hear you gasping!) But really, it's not that much considering all the stuff I got for it. At Christmas alone, I got a free decorative plate, a CD for half-off and a bunch of gifts. However, the cashier did gape at me and say, "Wow! I've never seen anyone spend so much here at one time!"

Reading is Magic
So, I went to Borders last night. I got in a fender bender in the parking lot, but I'm not talking about that. (Argh.) Suffice to say no damage and it wasn't my fault. Stupid lowered Civic hit me. Anyway, I finally made it into Borders and bought, "Now, Discover Your Strengths!" and "True Believer" by Nicholas Sparks. As I was leaving, I noticed they have these purple wristbands for sale, a la Lance Armstrong, and these say Reading is Magic. I succumbed.
All in all, quite the night. But whether or not I end up wearing the purple wristband, at least some poverty-stricken children will get my $1.60.
I can rest assured of that.
